Former Texas WR Jordan Shipley’s Wife Posts Update About His Facial Burns

Sunny Shipley, the wife of former Texas wide receiver Jordan Shipley, says her husband is still in the hospital following a dramatic ranching accident last week, but that photos circulating that appear to show his facial injuries are fake.

Jordan, 40, is recovering from a January 6 accident on his Texas ranch that left him in critical condition with severe burns all over his body

“I’ve had some messages about AI pictures of Jordan going around,” Sunny wrote via Facebook on Tuesday, January 13. “Please know that I or anyone else will never post a picture of Jordan’s face in the hospital online. His face is going to heal fine.”

Sunny added that she does not want her sons to encounter the images. She and Jordan married in 2011 and share Swayde, born in 2020, and Shield, born in 2021.

Jordan’s accident occurred when a machine he was working on caught fire. Though he was able to free himself, he sustained severe burns in the process and was airlifted to the hospital. Since then, family members have shared a few photos of him in the hospital, all of which showed Jordan bandaged without revealing any of his injuries.

His sister, Shelby Nuñez, offered an update the day after the accident on what lies ahead for the former Longhorn, including a surgery scheduled for January 8.

“Please pray that the cells work overtime in healing under the surface — capillaries, nerves, etc.,” she wrote via Facebook. “Please pray for full thickness of skin (after a severe burn takes place, it can continue to burn through layers for days). Please pray against any infection. Please pray for full mobility in arms, legs, and both hands. He has said he needs to be able to play catch with his boys again one day.”

The surgery ultimately revealed that Jordan would need more skin grafts on his arms, legs and hands.

“It’s a necessary and life saving measure for many and we knew that, but it was crushing news nonetheless,” Sunny wrote in a Facebook update after the surgery.

She continued, “He went into surgery earlier this morning and the surgeon looked at me and asked if I had gotten any sleep. I smiled and said ‘yes I got a little last night.’ He said, ‘good. You’re gonna need rest because y’all are going to be here for a while.’”

Despite the long road ahead, Sunny came away encouraged. She added that Jordan’s surgeon was shocked by how well he seemed to be recovering.

“He explained that his burns looked far better than anything he was expecting to find after his assessment the day before,” she wrote. “He said he’d never seen anything like it and didn’t know how to explain it.”

“He still has a long recovery,” Sunny cautioned. “[There will] be scarring and some long term changes, but the news we got today was better than best case scenario. A miracle.”
