Tell Me Lies may be polarizing, but it had Hulu viewers hooked for three seasons.
The show, based on the book of the same name by Carola Lovering, premiered in September 2022. For all three seasons, fans watched the toxic relationship between Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White) unfold.
Ahead of the third season, which wrapped up on Tuesday, February 17, Van Patten told Us Weekly exclusively that it was a “crazy ride.” And that it was.
“I think it’s the messiest yet and it truly feels like the peak of all these characters’ worst decisions,” she said in September 2025. “I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been working on.”

The season 3 finale (more on that in a second) left nearly nothing unanswered — but that didn’t stop fans from wondering if that would be the end of a years-long run. Will Tell Me Lies return for a fourth season?

Will ‘Tell Me Lies’ Return for Season 4?
No, the show’s creator Meaghan Oppenheimer confirmed on Monday, February 16, that Tell Me Lies would end following the season 3 finale.
“After three amazing seasons of Tell Me Lies, tonight’s episode will be the series finale. This was always the ending my writing team and I had in mind, and we are insanely proud of it,” she shared via Instagram. “Your incredible response to this season inspired us to explore whether there was another organic way to continue the story, but ultimately we felt it had reached its natural conclusion.”
Her statement continued, “My main goal has always been to protect the quality of the show and give you the best experience I can give you. And so, while it is bittersweet to leave something that has been such a happy experience, I am very grateful that we are able to tell a complete story with an intentional ending — a privilege very few shows get. Thank you for loving our show. We are excited to bring you more stories in the near future.”
What Has the ‘Tell Me Lies’ Cast and Crew Say About the Show Ending?
Before season 3 even premiered, it appeared that Oppenheimer hinted that the show’s run would be wrapping up.
“In terms of future seasons, it’s impossible to really know at this point,” she told Us exclusively in January. “I certainly had always thought this was always more or less the ending I’d had in mind.”
She added, “You never know what’s going to happen in the future. But there’s definitely a sense where I didn’t want to leave anything hanging this season. Basically, I wanted to satisfy everyone.”

Oppenheimer’s real-life husband, Tom Ellis, who stars as Oliver in the show, also appeared to tease that the third season would be the last.
“I think so, yeah,” he told Entertainment Tonight in September 2025. “I think Meaghan has written [it] to be the last season. For sure, yeah.”
What Happened in the ‘Tell Me Lies’ Season 3 Finale?
Every question gets answered — sort of.
Bree (Cat Missal) plants the seed for the rest of her life by ending her secret romance with Wrigley (Spencer House) and staying with Evan (Branden Cook). She also gets some subtle revenge on Lucy by releasing that video where she admits to lying about being sexually assaulted. This results in Lucy’s expulsion from Baird College. Stephen finally gets his just desserts and his application to Yale is rescinded after Wrigley tells the school exactly how Diana’s (Alicia Crowder) nudes were leaked.
The show comes full circle at Bree and Evan’s wedding. Wrigley and Bree nearly sleep together at her wedding. Stephen gave a speech during the nuptials which exposed their entire friend group. Bree’s possible romantic relationships with both Wrigley and Evan were left up in the air as Diana and Pippa (Sonia Mena) left the wedding still together. Lucy appeared to reconcile with Stephen one last time, leaving the wedding together.
How Did ‘Tell Me Lies’ End?
With Stephen being Stephen. He left Lucy at a gas station, stranded in the middle of nowhere because if he’s going to do anything, he’ll make her life a living hell.
