Former PGA Tour Pro Urges Tiger Woods to Quit Golf After DUI

A former PGA Tour professional golfer is urging Tiger Woods to hang it up after his latest DUI arrest.

“Why would he need to play golf anymore?” golf commentator Brandel Chamblee said on the Friday, March 27, episode of Golf Central. “I think he should probably ask himself that. Consider not playing golf anymore.”

He continued, “It’s clear that Tiger Woods has a history of pushing himself to his physical limit. Beyond his physical limit. … To the degree that he keeps hurting himself, injuring himself, requiring surgeries … those surgeries and injuries come along with prescribed pain medication. And unless you’ve had your head in the sand for the last 20 to 30 years, you can connect the dots to the pain mediation and the addiction to the pain medication.”

(Woods completed a “private, intensive” treatment program for substance abuse following his 2017 DUI arrest. The golfer was discovered sleeping behind the wheel, with Vicodin and Xanax in his system. He pleaded guilty to reckless driving and entered a diversion program for first-time DUI offenders.)

Tiger Woods has been arrested and charged with a DUI after a rollover car crash in Jupiter Island, Florida. In a press conference on Friday, March 27, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to reporters that Woods, 50, was arrested and charged with DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. “Our […]

Chamblee, 63, stated that he is not speculating about what caused Woods’ accident on Friday, urging viewers to “let the facts play out.”

Woods, 50, was arrested on Friday afternoon in Jupiter Island, Florida, after he was involved in a rollover car accident. He was subsequently charged with DUI, property damage and refusal to submit a lawful test after he refused a urinalysis test when authorities arrived at the scene.

The golfer did complete a breathalyzer test which resulted in triple zeros, suggesting Woods was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

“He’s done his work in the game of golf,” Chamblee added on the show. “Nothing he’s going to do on the Champions Tour … will add to his legacy. It’s clear since 2021 that he can’t play at a competitive level on the PGA Tour. His body just won’t let him do what his talents had previously led him to do.”

He continued, “That seems like the only circumstance that would alleviate this problem. Beyond that, you just hope he gets the care and the help he needs.”

Woods spent roughly eight hours at Martin County Jail — per Florida statute — and was released around 11 p.m. ET on Friday.

According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, Woods was driving a black Land Rover and clipped the back of a pickup trump pulling a small trailer, causing Woods’s SUV to flip over.

No injuries were reported in the accident.

Woods was also involved in another single-car crash back in 2021, which resulted in a shattered ankle and two leg features. No illegal or prescribed drug use was suspected at the time.
