The Pitt follows an emergency room shift in real time — but how many episodes are left in season 2?
HBO Max’s hit series, which streams new episodes on Thursdays, is meant to follow a single 15-hour work shift at the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Just like with season 1, the sophomore installment will have 15 episodes with the shift starting at 7 in the morning and ending at 9 at night for the healthcare workers.
The Pitt, which premiered in January 2025, follows a group of employees at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital’s ER. It didn’t take long for Us to fall in love with the entire cast including Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), Dana (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Mohan (Ganesh), Dr. Cassie McKay (Fiona Dourif), Dr. King (Dearden), Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), Whitaker (Gerran Howell) and Javadi (Shabana Azeez).
After returning for season 2 earlier this year, the medical drama has already scored itself another renewal. The Pitt’s Dearden and Ganesh recently spoke up about the different wishes they have for their respective characters in season 3.
“Without revealing too much, hopefully there’s more of a friendship for Mel that develops in season 2,” Dearden teased in February. “And then hopefully we see what a friendship with Mel looks like in season 3. That’s what I’m always going for — friends for Mel.”
Ganesh was a bit more cryptic.
“It’s up to the writers. Let’s see where they end up taking her,” she teased. “I think we left her in a really interesting spot. I’m really curious where she ends up going.”
Ganesh also praised how The Pitt prioritizes accuracy, adding, “I have some background in medicine and I read for a lot of South Asian doctors as a Brown woman. I’ve read almost every medical script in the past three to four years. So when I got The Pitt, I was like, ‘Oh, this is actually medically accurate.’”
She continued: “I didn’t need to turn off that part of my brain. I read it and I was like, ‘This is gonna be a hit.’ Because it’s so I’ve never seen anything, I never read anything this realistic.”
Before the cast returns to work, they have been enjoying the break.
“It’s such an intense shoot, and we’re pretty much just in the studio for eight months straight,” Dearden told Us. “So there’s so many things that get neglected in my life — and a lot of things like housework and basic stuff. It’s just like putting on my work clothes and going outside for most of it. I need the sun.”
New episodes of The Pitt premiere on HBO Max every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.
