Mindy Kaling was responsible for the nostalgic Office reunion at the Screen Actors Guild’s 2026 Actor Awards on Sunday, March 1.
The actress and writer, who shot to fame as Kelly Kapoor, reunited with her former Dunder Mifflin colleagues Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey and Ellie Kemper to present the award for best ensemble cast in a comedy series to The Studio.
It turns out that the feel-good moment was all Kaling’s idea.
“Mindy Kaling sort of became a pseudo talent booker for our show,” executive producer Mark Bracco told Variety after Sunday’s awards ceremony in Los Angeles. “We had reached out to her about being a presenter, and she came back with the idea of, ‘What if I did a reunion with all the women of The Office?’ and we’re like, ‘Yeah!’”
Bracco continued, “Within, like, an hour, she had texted all of them, and she basically booked them all for us. So she had texted with Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey and Ellie Kemper, and I’m not kidding, like, within 90 minutes, they were all booked and presenting on the show.”
The quartet reminisced about their time on The Office during a funny introduction, with Kaling, 46, noting, “We are the women who survived 22-episode seasons.”
“You didn’t plan a season around a pregnancy,” Kemper added, to which Kaling responded, “Yeah, you just gave birth on camera and named the baby after a grip.”
The Office ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013, producing over 200 episodes.

Over the years, the cast have reunited in various iterations. Back in December 2024, Kaling shared a picture with Fischer, 51, Kinsey, 54, and Kemper, 45, via Instagram as the foursome reunited over the holiday season.
“It’s been 20 years since I first met these beautiful women!” she captioned the image. “This year was a rollercoaster to say the least, and it’s so nice to be able to unpack life’s joys and challenges with people who knew me when I was a 24 year old customer service rep in the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin. I love you guys!”
She added, “ETA. I know this was too sincere so I will add my favorite Michael Scott quote about Christmas, which is: ‘Guess who I am sitting here dressed as. I will give you a hint- his last name is Christ. He has the power of flight and he can heal leopards.’ 🎄❤️🐆”
While the stars of The Office have now passed the baton to Peacock spinoff show The Paper, the cast has shown support for the sequel series.
Last year, The Paper actress Chelsea Frei revealed that Steve Carell (Michael Scott) and John Krasinski (Jim Halpert) dropped by the show’s set while they were filming season 1.
“The trailer door opens and John Krasinski and Steve Carell walk in,” she said on a September 2025 episode of “The Viall Files” podcast. “It was like 5 a.m. and I was like, ‘What? No, please don’t do this.’ It was, like, literally a nightmare because I just looked insane [while preparing to film].”
“They both worked with [costar] Domhnall [Gleeson] and adore him and just came in and surprised us and were so sweet,” Frei added. “It was insane. Like, they literally couldn’t have been nicer. We told them that we were so nervous because we just don’t want to be compared to what they did.”
