Laguna Beach’s Stephen Colletti and Matt Leinart are coming clean about a high school rumor that just won’t go away.
“I’m glad you came on [the podcast] because I felt maybe there was a beef between us 20 years ago,” Leinart, 42, said on the Thursday, February 26, episode of the “Throwbacks With Matt Leinart and Jerry Ferrara” podcast. “I had no idea what was going on, dude.”
Colletti, 40, responded, “Usually people are asking me questions about how was my experience on the show. I want to know how your experience being on Laguna Beach was, because what a legendary appearance there.”
During season 2 of Laguna Beach, Colletti’s ex-girlfriend Kristin Cavallari dated Leinart as he became a football star at the University of Southern California.
Although Leinart never appeared on the show, the NFL player recalled his name being brought up on the beloved MTV series.
“I was like, ‘What the f*** happened? What’s going on?’” he recalled on his latest podcast. “I remember I got all sorts of s*** from my teammates and all this kind of stuff.”
Leinart said he has maintained a friendship with Cavallari, 39, and even reached out before having Colletti on the podcast.
“I apologize, dude, if I did anything wrong,” Leinart shared with his guest. “Man to man, right here. Face to face.”
Spoiler alert: There’s no beef between these former Orange County residents.
“No worries, you did not do anything wrong. It’s two ships kind of passing in the night there,” Colletti said while laughing. “Thankfully, there was not any overlap. There wasn’t a hidden love triangle that involved you and I and her at that time. We were moving on.”
Colletti — who is now married to NASCAR reporter Alex Weaver — went on to tell a story of when Cavallari recalled going on a date with Leinart and calling him a “gentleman.”
After seeing a clip of the podcast episode on Instagram, Cavallari decided to weigh in and prove there’s no hard feelings with anyone.
“So glad we cleared this up 🤣,” she wrote in the comments section on Monday, March 2.
More than 20 years after Laguna Beach first premiered on MTV, much of the cast is coming together for a reunion special on The Roku Channel.
For the first time since 2006, Colletti and Cavallari will join Lauren Conrad, Lo Bosworth, Talan Torriero, Trey Phillips, Christina Shuller, Dieter Schmitz, Jessica Smith and Alex Hooser to reflect on the series that focused on the personal lives of students attending Laguna Beach High School.
The show became a massive hit for MTV and inspired spinoffs, including The Hills and Newport Harbor.
“We never really talked about it,” Colletti teased about the upcoming special. “We never thought we would get the attention from it as we did. Twenty years later, you’ve matured a little bit and you feel like you can go down that road together. It was great to get everyone together. We had a lot of fun together.”
The Reunion: Laguna Beach premieres on The Roku Channel on April 10.
