The Pitt Star on Unanswered Santos, Garcia Romance Question

After The Pitt offered more insight into Santos and Garcia’s casual romance, Alexandra Metz is weighing in on their future.

“I think people are going to love where it lands,” Metz, 39, told Us Weekly exclusively at Actors Rising Presented by The Actor Awards and ELLE earlier this month.

The actress hinted at how the show will address Santos (Isa Briones) and Garcia (Metz) again, adding, “If I were to tease anything, I would say we’re likely going to continue to feel things out and keep things casual and make sure that it’s a healthy dynamic so that we can keep doing our jobs.”

During the Thursday, March 5, episode of the hit HBO Max series, Santos tried to make plans with Garcia after their shift. Garcia, however, reminded Santos that their relationship was more casual.

The Pitt swept the 2026 awards season after its gripping story lines and dynamic cast performances, leaving fans eager to see more. The medical drama, created by R. Scott Gemmill and executive produced by John Wells and Noah Wyle, premiered on HBO Max in January 2025. The series chronicles the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s […]

“It’s all on the page. And, also, it is those little moments that you find on the day on the set,” Metz told Us about working with Briones, 27, on their scenes. “It’s just beautiful things that come to life that you don’t necessarily plan for. We just love discovering that moment to moment.”

The costars have collaborated on filling the time gaps between seasons, with Metz saying, “One of the big blanks for us was, ‘Why am I sleeping over at her place when she has a roommate and I probably have more money and more space?’ I came to the conclusion of I must be having renovations at my place because there’s no other reason. So she’s letting me crash — hence the toothbrush moment.”

The Pitt, which premiered on HBO Max in January 2025, follows a group of employees at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital’s ER working a single 15-hour shift. It didn’t take long for Us to fall in love with the entire cast including Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), Dana (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Mohan (Ganesh), Dr. Cassie McKay (Fiona Dourif), Dr. King (Dearden), Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), Whitaker (Gerran Howell) and Javadi (Shabana Azeez).

Earlier in the season, The Pitt offered more insight into Santos’ past when a scene of her in the bathroom showed the camera panning to scars on her outer thigh.

“Santos and Garcia have been intimate, so it’s definitely a topic [between them],” Metz said about how much her character knows about Santos’ struggles. “We talk later on in the season when some things come up in regard to therapy — especially with the shooting last season — whether people have gone to therapy or not.”

She continued: “There’s so many different ways of coping and we’re all just trying to do our best. So obviously, that’s Santos’ way of doing it currently and it’s definitely in conversation.”

New episodes of The Pitt premiere on HBO Max every Thursday at 9 p.m. ET.
