Why Kristen Bell’s Husband Dax Shepard Missed 2026 Actor Awards Carpet

Dax Shepard hinted at his absence from the SAG’s 2026 Actor Awards before his wife, Kristen Bell, walked the red carpet solo.

Bell, 45, made a stunning impression while posing for photos on the red carpet at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 1. The actress rocked a sheer silver gown and was briefly joined by Nobody Wants This costar Jackie Tohn, who opted for a pink dress.

Shepard, 51, meanwhile, wasn’t photographed at the event after he took to Instagram Stories earlier that day to offer a glimpse at his far less glamorous colonoscopy prep. He shared a screengrab from a conversation in which he was reminded to only drink clear liquids on Sunday until switching to water for the procedure on Monday, March 2.

Shepard replied, “I’m currently eating a steak smothered in seeds and nuts.”

The awards show marks the third time Bell has attended the ceremony as an emcee. She was the first-ever host back in 2018 and returned again in 2025.

“There’s not really an award show, in my opinion, that has a warmer room, a bigger sense of comradery,” she told People ahead of Sunday’s celebratory event. “To have the opportunity to entertain in front of all these people I admire and my friends and my fellow entertainers, it’s wonderful.”

Bell joked that her biggest fear while on stage is “tripping,” adding, “Because I do not like high heels, and that’s always the only fear.” She also spoke to the outlet about how Shepard supported her after she accepted the gig.

“There’s nothing that he won’t do to take care of me,” Bell said about how “grateful” she is for how Shepard “applies himself.”

“One thing that I love so much about being married to him is that he is never allergic to me shining more and more,” she noted. “He never gets insecure about it.”

The actress noted that being married for over a decade is a “long time,” adding, “We put a lot of work into it and I’m very happy. We’re very supportive of each other and our marriage and our family.”

Bell and Shepard, who share daughters Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10, celebrated 12 years of marriage in October 2025. After making the occasion, the Nobody Wants This star sparked backlash with her public tribute to Shepard.

“Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you,’” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “‘A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.’”

Bell received backlash from those who questioned the reference to domestic violence. She didn’t directly address the drama but has continued to publicly stand by her marriage.

“Having someone I feel that is very opposite from me is certainly something that I feel,” she told People in October 2025. “I feel like my real-life husband and I are ‘opposites attract.’”

Love is always in the air at the SAG’s Actor Awards. All eyes were on John Krasinski and Emily Blunt during the 2019 awards when she took home the supporting actress award for A Quiet Place, which Krasinski directed and costarred in with his wife. After Blunt’s name was announced, the couple, who wed in […]

At the time, Bell weighed in on the benefit of opposites attracting.

“But that doesn’t mean we couldn’t make it work, or didn’t want to make it work,” she continued. “It just meant we did have to have a lot of patience for each other to figure out what the compromises would be, and a general understanding that we’re probably going to have different viewpoints on almost everything — and figure out a respectful way to have those discussions.”

Bell also recalled when she knew Shepard was The One.

“I am glad I chose my husband, because he has a commitment to growth at all times,” she said on an episode of SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live that same month. “I don’t like the idea that you’re like looking for your perfect puzzle piece, because you also have to become a puzzle piece that fits with someone else.”

Bell continued: “So if you find two people that are like, ‘Yeah, we’re gonna make this work,’ and that means we’re gonna compromise constantly, and those compromises should work well for both of us. And sometimes it’s gonna ebb and sometimes it’s gonna flow, but we’re not gonna have checks and balances because we’re gonna realize it’s not me against you, it’s us against the world.”
